Wissy's Cupcakes

This page of my blog is to chronicle the creations of my niece Elisabeth in her newfound obsession with making cupcakes. It is called Wissy's Cupcakes, because that is how her sweet 2.5 year old nephew says her name.

As noted in one of my blog posts, her obsession for cupcake making really hopped into high gear when I asked her to help me with a large order of cupcakes for a Kentucky Derby Party. I showed her how I wanted the mint julep cupcakes done and she did the remaining 49 of those while I worked on the petal roses. After she finished those, she watched me doing the roses for a while and decided to give those a try as well and ended up doing several of those as well. Don't think I would have ever finished that day without her there. Her mom sent me a message the next day telling me that she had a blast working with me the day before and felt like a pro by the end of the day!

The bug hit her hard, then, so I called and asked if she wanted me to pick up some jumbo decorating tips for her at the bakery supply store, which was met with an immediate, "YES!!!" before I fully got the question out! I passed the tips along to my brother on Mother's Day at my grandmother's house to give to her and just a couple of nights later, she tagged me in this picture of the 70+ minis she'd done to take to the elementary school class in which she'd done her student teaching that semester.
Then her mom's birthday was on May 17th and she posted this pic of ones she'd done for her mom's birthday. She did red velvet with cream cheese icing and chocolate with buttercream. She did orange and blue colors because her mom is an Auburn fan.
Her mom was scheduled for major surgery in just two days from this, which meant they were all here in Birmingham for the week. I had her meet me over at the bakery supply store so she could get a few things she needed (and "had to have" once we got there - ha!) for an order she received for a graduation party next week. She is a big Alabama fan, so when she saw houndstooth cupcake liners in mini size and regular size, too, she bought several packs of minis! I awoke today (May 22, 2014) to find myself tagged in this pic of over 80 mini red velvet she'd done in her new houndstooth liners. She sent me a text that read, "I am addicted to baking cupcakes that I don't eat!! I did over 80 last night!" I told her that she would start looking at things people have going on in their lives that she can use as a good excuse to make cupcakes! I told her she should call these Roll Tide Red Velvet Cupcakes.
Will update as she does more!

She was asked to do cupcakes for the same graduation that I did those disaster cookies in purple and gold for. She was really worried about the gold as well. Looks like her gold buttercream turned out much prettier than my gold royal icing did!

  1. This is wonderful. It is a great outlet for her as well. She has teachers giving her things to start her first classroom. They are being thanked with cupcakes :-) Makes her momma happy too. I'm always willing to try new flavors!

    1. It makes me very happy as well. I finally figured out how to change my blog settings so I could reply directly to your comment, not just as a second comment! Wow, how little it takes to excite me, huh? Ha!
